OBESITY AND ASTHMA: ADIPONECTIN RECEPTOR 1 (ADIPO R1) AND ADIPONECTIN RECEPTOR 2 (ADIPO R2) ARE EXPRESSED BY NORMAL HUMAN BRONCHIAL EPITHELIAL (NHBE) CELLS AT AIR-LIQUID INTERFACE (ALI) AND EXPRESSION CHANGES WITH IL-13 STIMULATION By Jennifer Bradley, M.S. A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University, 2016. Circulating serum adiponectin levels in obese asthmatics have been reported to be low. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of adiponectin in a mucus hypersecretion model and hypothesized that adiponectin would decrease IL-13 induced MUC5AC expression from differentiated NHBE cells and that increasing concentrations of IL-13 would cause a decrease in Adipo R1 and Adipo R2 expression. MUC5AC expression with exposure to adiponectin was not significant. However, mRNA expression of Adipo R1 and Adipo R2 was significantly decreased by stimulation of IL-13 for acute (24 hours) and chronic (14 days) exposure. Therefore, the obese state and specifically IL-13 concentration could play a role in Adipo R1 and Adipo R2 expression within NHBE cells.

in vitro Anti-Proliferative Effect of Adiponectin on Human Endometriotic Stromal Cells through AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 Gene Receptor Expression

Background: Endometriosis is a complex disorder in reproductive age women which consist of stromal and epithelial cells implantation outside the uterine cavity. Adiponectin is a member of cytokine family with various metabolic roles and proliferation inhibition of many cancer cells. The aim of the present research was to determine adiponectin effect on human endometriotic stromal cells (ESCs) p...

Expression and regulation of adiponectin and receptor in human and rat placenta.

CONTEXT Adiponectin is an adipocyte hormone involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Recently, two receptors of this protein, called adiponectin receptor 1 (Adipo-R1) and Adipo-R2, have been cloned. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine whether adiponectin and its receptors are expressed in human and rat placentas and to evaluate the regulation of these factors by gestational age an...

Adiponectin Effect on The Viability of Human Endometrial Stromal Cells and mRNA Expression of Adiponectin Receptors

BACKGROUND Adiponectin is one of the most important adipokines secreted from fatty tissue that has a direct inhibitory effect on the development of cancer cells. Adiponectin plays an important role in human reproduction system and fertility of women. Adiponectin concentration decreases in women with endometriosis and endometrial cancer. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect...

Adiponectin receptor expression in the human adrenal cortex and aldosterone-producing adenomas.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived circulating peptide that plays an important role in adipose tissue metabolism, insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular disease. The adrenal gland, by secreting glucorticoid and mineralocorticoid hormones, intervenes in cardiovascular and glucose metabolism regulation and is surrounded by adipose tissue. Hence, we investigated the hypothesis that adiponectin re...
